The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak was declared a global pandemic on the 11th of March 2020.
Since then, a lot of information has been shared on the Internet, social media platforms and through printed information such as handouts, fact sheets or brochures.
In addition, the Federal Government, through the Department of Home Affairs has recently announced that it is “boosting its COVID-19 communication strategy to reach multicultural communities through guidelines translated into foreign languages.”
It can be very confusing, overwhelming and intimidating to be exposed to so much information.
Some cohorts of people, such as people with disability from culturally and linguistically backgrounds, are more vulnerable than others, during this pandemic.
It is, therefore, very important for them to have access to the right resources, easily and quickly.
For this reason, our team at the National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) has decided to put together a list of resources available on COVID-19, that could be useful for our members and community.
We are sharing resources from trusted sources, such as the Australian Department of Health, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and EthnoLink Language Services, our preferred translation partner.
1) Department of Health
The Department of Health is the most reliable means for you to access information on COVID-19.
Their website has information in several languages and includes factsheets on hygiene, overseas travellers, steps on how to stop the spread etc.
Visit https://www.health.gov.au/resources/translated to access resources in your preferred language.
2) National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The NDIS has recently published a list of multilingual resources, in Easy Read, on what the NDIA is doing “to stop Coronavirus spreading.”
You can view the resources here.
3) EthnoLink Language Services
EthnoLink is a community language translation specialist and our preferred translation partner.
EthnoLink has put together a library of multilingual resources, “so that all Australians can access information in their preferred language about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.”
The library includes resources in 24 languages, from the Department of Health (Australian Government), Department of Home Affairs, and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
You can view the library here.
