In January 2026, NEDA and PWDA made a joint submission to the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in response to Australia’s Sixth Periodic Report under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

The submission brings together general disability rights perspectives and those specific to people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds reflecting the intersectional lens that sits at the heart of NEDA’s advocacy.

On February 16, NEDA’s Head of Research and Advocacy, Sadikshya Dulal (tag her) appeared before the UN Committee’s civil society briefing session for the review of Australia’s 6th Periodic Report, bringing CALD perspectives directly into an international human rights process.

UN treaty monitoring can feel distant from the everyday realities of the communities we work with. But these processes matter. They ask governments to account for who is being left out.

We’ll keep showing up wherever those conversations are happening.
