The National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) is pleased to welcome back Lara Kissin as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following her appointment by the NEDA Board.

After a 10-month tenure in an acting capacity, Lara officially commenced as CEO on the 1st of September 2026, bringing lived experience as a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) person and a personal understanding of disability. Lara has more than 20 years’ senior leadership experience in the private and not-for-profit community sectors.

Throughout her career, Lara has been strongly committed to advancing access and inclusion for CALD people with disability, focusing on practical action to engage communities and influence national policy development.

From November 2025 to August 2026, she led NEDA’s advocacy efforts centred on NDIS New Framework Planning, the introduction of Thriving Kids and foundational supports, and the NDIS Reform Bill in partnership with other Disability Representative Organisations, playing a demonstrable role in raising awareness of issues affecting CALD communities and securing vital safeguards for our vulnerable cohort.

Additionally, Lara secured partnerships with the NDIA and Senator the Hon Jenny McAllister’s office, Minister for the NDIS, to facilitate accessible in-person and online community workshops about how to help CALD participants best detect fraud in the NDIS ecosystem, and the Australian Government on their multicultural campaign for the Disability Gateway.

To further strengthen NEDA’s voice and networks, she launched the Living Experience Reference Group and recruited a new member organisation in South Australia, bolstering our evidence-based submissions and policy on issues affecting CALD people with disability.

Lara has implemented a communications plan that has seen a significant increase in membership on various digital media. NEDA continues to communicate on a regular basis through its newsletter and website.

Having been employed at NEDA for six years, Lara previously held the roles of Governance Officer and Executive Assistant to the CEO, working closely with senior leadership to support strategic direction, organisational compliance, stakeholder and member engagement, and grant management.

The NEDA Board is excited to welcome Lara back in an official capacity and continue the strong, sustainable trajectory she fostered during her previous tenure.

NEDA President Maryanne Cosic says:

“NEDA is delighted to appoint Lara as CEO. Together with her strong relationships within the sector and her collaborative leadership style, her trusted voice brings a deep understanding of people with disability from CALD backgrounds.

Lara’s vision for the next two years is to maintain NEDA’s position as the national voice for CALD people with disability and pursue new opportunities and partnerships that promote the social model of disability and ensure our community is at the forefront of decisions that affect us.”
